Veterans’ Day
Today we remember all those who have served in uniform – past and present. Veterans’ Day is not a day of silence, but a day of conscious remembrance and recognition.
It reminds us of that peace, security and freedom cannot be taken for granted. They are borne by people who were prepared to take on responsibility – often at the risk of their health, their family time and sometimes their lives.
How society treat our veterans says a lot about our understanding of values. Those who serve deserve more than polite words – they deserve respect, genuine support, and the feeling that they are not forgotten.
Veterans carry experiences that can shape and enrich our society – if we are willing to listen. Today reminds us not only to look back, but also to take responsibility for the future: in dealing with those who have served and in standing up for the values they have protected.
Today we not only give thanks – but we also remember, we promise, and we commit ourselves:
Never to forget.
