LU SINGAPORE – CHARITY ACTIVITIES

Phase 1 Complete — 150 Microscopes, 38 Schools, Countless Sparked Imaginations

The Lazarus Union Singapore Division Group is thrilled to announce the successful completion of Phase 1 of the privately funded initiative to bring high-powered microscopes to schools in developing countries.

Over the Easter break, we had the immense privilege of personally delivering 150 microscopes to 38 schools across Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia — the first major milestone in a journey that began with a charity awareness ride across Thailand last Christmas.

This project is carried out in collaboration with the Royal Microscopical Society, where we are honoured to serve as both Fellow and Ambassador. Together, we aim to place advanced scientific instruments directly into the hands of students — young minds who might otherwise never have access to such technology.

There is nothing quite like witnessing a student peer through a microscope for the very first time and gasp at the hidden world suddenly revealed to them. Leaves, insects, grains of sand — transformed into vivid, complex marvels. The excitement in their eyes says it all: science inspires. Curiosity is universal.

Our ultimate goal is to ignite a lifelong interest in STEM, with a special focus on marine biology and the marine sciences, so crucial to the ecosystems and futures of these coastal communities.

What’s Next?

With Phase 1 now behind us, we eagerly move forward to Phase 2:

  • 350 additional microscopes scheduled for distribution in 2025
  • Expanded reach across qualifying schools in Southeast Asia

Looking ahead to 2026, our ambition grows even further:

  • 500 microscopes across the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Thailand

This initiative is about more than equipment. It’s about access, equity, and imagination.
And this is only the beginning.
